Jurisdiction

Citations for a class C misdemeanor that are issued by an officer of the City of Deer Park will be filed in municipal court. Typically, these are violations of city ordinances or violations of state law for which the punishment is by fine only.

Common Offenses

Common offenses include traffic violations such as:

  • No Valid Inspection Certificate
  • Expired Registration
  • No Driver's License 
  • No Insurance (FMFR)
  • Disregarding a Red Light
  • Disregarding a Stop Sign 
  • Speeding 

Common city ordinance infractions include:

  • Alarm permit violations
  • Leash law violations
  • Excessive noise violations

The municipal court also has jurisdiction over any state law violations punishable by fine only including:

  • Minor in Possession of Alcohol
  • Minor in Possession of Tobacco 
  • Public Intoxication
  • Theft of property valued under $50 

Citations filed with the municipal court are written by:

  • Animal Control Officers
  • Code Enforcement Officers
  • Deer Park Police Officers
  • Fire Marshal/Chief
