Wildlife Wednesday

Wednesday - May 6, 2020 - Walk the Deer Park Nature Preserve with us! Earth Day may be over but here at Deer Park Parks and Recreation, we are still preserving nature and wildlife.  We invite you to come take a walk at the Deer Park Nature Preserve and while enjoying the biodiversity of the Deer Park Nature Preserve, please remember that protected plants and animals are present in the area.  In studying and restoring both the wetland and the prairie, it is important to safeguard creatures and habitats from human interference.  A trail system is in place to not only protect you but our rare plants and animals that live here.  Please respect our wildlife and stay on the designated trails.  The southernmost 17 acres of land has a Conservation Easement to ensure the wetlands are never developed nor destroyed.  This means that boardwalks and general access to the area is prohibited.  A buffer of trees will remain along the boardwalk in the area to encourage migratory birds to continue to use the site with minimal to no disturbance.  Please remember all dogs must remain on a leash and no bikes are permitted on the trails. Please help us to keep the nature preserve natural by respecting the flora and wildlife that call the park home so that you may continue to enjoy the park for years to come. The Nature Preserve is located at 2500 E. 13th Street.   The video can be found HERE.
